Laundry Room DIY
A lot of days I find myself day-dreaming about having my own laundry room with space to fold everything and iron and maybe even hide a messy pile of clothes when guests come over [am I the only one?]. I dream about the tile, wallpaper, hardware, lighting and every little detail that would make it perfect. And even though I don't know when I'll have that, I love gathering inspiration so I have put together my current favorites from Pinterest and you can follow me a long there if you want to see more. I have also been thinking about how school is starting today for almost everyone and that means getting back to a routine of things and carpools for moms and lunch boxes, as well as more piles of laundry because of all the school clothes. I have never made my own laundry detergent until I was researching some ideas and came across this great recipe and the benefits to making your own are pretty great. It lasts for over a year so you save money because you only need about 2 tablespoons per load, it's great for sensitive skin, and it really does remove all your stains. If that hasn't convinced you, then just think how cute your homemade detergent will look in a glass jar on your laundry room shelf with a silver scooper;)
How To Make Your Own Laundry Soap
| INGREDIENTS |
one four pound 12 oz. box of Borax [you can use 2 smaller boxes.]
three bars of Fels-Naptha soap [you can also use another soap of your choice.]
one four pound box of Arm & Hammer baking soda
four pounds of Oxi Clean [one small/ one large container]
laundry softener crystals for scent [you can mix these into our laundry detergent or add them to your loads as needed.]
| DIRECTIONS |
1 | Grate the Fels-Naptha bars into a bowl
2 | Dump Fels-Naptha into a large container [I used a 5 gallon pale with a garbage bag inside]
3 | Mix all other ingredients into the bucket and shake it all up together
4 | Place into container of your choice [I used a 4 gallon glass jar from World Market]
